Eynsham Challenge
Revenge was sweet for Team WRR as they won back The Woodman Shield at The Woodman Inn, North Leigh last Tuesday. Everyone
who ran and helped played their part and the Chairman would like to pass on his thanks to all who were there. It was a very
close result. After each club had their first two teams in the scores were tied at 9 each so it all depended on the position
of the last two teams. A huge cheer went up as the WRR C team came in to view to bring the Shield back home where it
belongs. The final score WRR 11 ERR 10!
County

everyone is welcome to run and they are great fun, or If you’re not interested in running, we need to provide 2

Oxford Mail Cross Country League
Congratulations to Nicola Gomm who won the Vet 45 category, John Atyeo who won the vet 40 category and Phil Hails
who was joint second in the senior man category.
Also a huge thank you to those members that competed in the league for the club.
London Marathon Bus
This has now been booked and will depart from the leisure centre at 6.00am on
Sunday 13th April 2008. Costs are £7 for members, and £9 non members. Booking can be made after 1st February 2008 via Les Harrison or Adam Smith
Membership Renewal
It’s that time of year again I’m afraid. Club membership fees
are due on the 1st Jan 2008. The cost is £12. However, if you are
hoping to compete for the club between 1st April 2008 and 31st March 2009 you will also need to renew
your England Athletic affiliation. This is not due until 1st April 2008,
at which time it goes up from the current £3 to £5.
In order to save collecting two lots on money next year, the EA fees should be submitted with the WRR renewal, making
the total cost £17. Don’t forget that failure to register will mean that you will not be able to enter races as a
member of Witney Road Runners, wear the vest, or count for the team.
2008 Membership Renewal Form

World Masters Athletics Championships
Charlie Batts has just return from the World Masters Athletics Championship held in Riccione
Italy.
Competing in only his third Decathlon he increased his personal best score by over 51 points
to 4549 whilst taking 28th place out of an entry of 60 athletes in the over 45 age group category.
Over the ten events he equalled or bettered seven seasons bests and produced
one personal best performance. The personal best came in the Pole vault where he leapt to a height of 2.30m. After
two long days with 8.30am registrations, Charlie had to wait until 10 pm on the second day to complete the competition
with the gruelling 1500 metre finale. Luckily he wasn't in the over 40 age group as they ran their 1500m at midnight!
96 countries were represented with over 9000 athletes taking part over the three stadiums. Britain
had the third largest team with 535 competitors.
Lawrence Home Nursing Marathon Boys
Congratulations to Graham Ferris, David May, Adam Smith, Neil Shellard and Les Harrison who not

Home Nursing Team. This included £75 collected on the night of the presentation in at successful attempt to reach £6,000. This
was a great effort from the five gentlemen and they would like to thank everyone who sposored them.

Charlie Batts
Those of you down last
Thursday will know that after 16 years of total commitment, Witney Roadrunner Charlie Batts has retired from junior team coaching
and management. Charlie has been involved with the junior section since its infancy
and has been a leading force, enabling the group to grow from a small number to the 100 strong team that the club now
enjoys. This includes two athletes who have now become gone on to become Great
British representatives.
Charlie was the first decathlete
for Witney Roadrunners, and will still be competing for the club as a veteran athlete.
Later this week he travels to Helsinki to compete in the European Masters Pentathlon, and we wish the very best
of luck.
