England Athletics Affiliation
With effect from the 1st April 2007 the club
is required to register with England Athletics. This involves the club paying
a £50 affiliation fee. In a change to past practices however, each club member
over the age of 11 who wishes to compete in any event must also register individually and pay a £3 annual fee. If you wish to race over the coming year please complete a fom and pass it, together with £3, to any committee
member. A copy of the guidance issued by England Athletics will also be placed
on the notice board if you want to find out more.
For anyone joining after 1st April, and for rejoins next year, this cost will be included in the overall
membership fee.

Club Tops
We are about to order new stocks of the club singlet and t-shirts. Since
the last order they have increased the costs and so the new stock will now cost more - £16 for the singlet and £19 for the
t-shirt. The club makes no profit from these prices.
Officials Course
England Athletics are holding a level 2 officials course on Saturday 21st April at Tilsey
Park, Abingdon. If anyone
is interested in becoming involved in this area please let Lyn Hopkins know. The
club will cover the cost of the course.
Volunteer Needed
England Athletic SE Region have invited a member of the club to attend a road running forum on Saturday 28th
April 2007 at the Thames Valley Athletic Centre from 11am until
3pm. If anyone is free to
represent us please contact Lyn Hopkins as soon as possible.
Short League
Due to a late conversation
last Wednesday, this news didn’t make last weeks news sheet. Pat Chard
has made the decision to step down from her role in organising the Short League this year. Many runners who felt the longer
races of the Domestic League were beyond them, have benefited from the Short League, which Pat was instrumental in setting
up. I, as Chairman, would like to personally and publicly thank Pat for all her time, effort and hard work in running the
Short League.
Tony
Ladies team Captain
After the plea in last weeks news sheet for a ladies team captain,
Sally Pitts has kindly volunteered to pick up the baton.

kindly agreed to continue their sterling work looking after the kit
There is a vacancy for a ladies team captain. If you are interested in
filling this challenging role let any committee member know. Don’t worry
- you won’t have to turn up to committee meetings!
Paris
Les Harrison is organising a coach trip to France to coincide with the Paris marathon.
It will leave on the 4th and return on the 7th. If
you fancy running an overseas marathon, a weekend in Paris or just a chance to do some duty free shopping, let les know. The cost will be in the region of £150. There
will be no single rooms due to the cost.
Witney 10 Sponsor
Although it seems a long way away, the club is looking for race sponsors for this years
Witney 10. If you work for a firm or know of a firm who maybe interested in sponsoring the race in any form could you please
contact Tony Lock on 07792031554
Mountain Races
John Atyeo is intending to enter the Cader Idris 10.5 mile mountain race on Sat 26th
May and possibly the Snowdon
mountain race on Sat 28th July. If others are interested, it would be good to fill up a car or two, and maybe enter a team.
These dates may seem a long way off but there are race limits of 250 and 450 respectively and We don't want to miss out. As
both races are on a Saturday, it would seem sensible to travel on the Friday evening and probably camp. Any interest and/or
suggestions would be gratefully received. E-mail John at tejatyeo@yahoo.co.uk
Witney Sportshall
Many thanks to all athletes
and adults who were involved in the smooth running of this weeks Sportshall Indoor Athletics held at the Windrush Leisure
Centre. Many hands made light work of the afternoon and everything went extremely well. This was another example of Witney
doing the job properly. The atmosphere and noise was tremendous, and anyone looking for an advert to fun in athletics would
have found it in Witney on Sunday. Also, a big thank you to Kim Batts who finished her newspaper report at 11.30 on Sunday night.
London Marathon
Coach
The coach has now been booked for the London Marathon. As usual the bus will depart at 6am from the Leisure Centre. The Double Decker Coach was full last year so to avoid
disappointment book you’re your seats early. Bookings to Les Harrison on Thursday nights after training. Cost is £7
for members and £9 for non-members. If you want to marshal see Lyn Hopkins
Boxing Day Fun Run
A big thank you to everyone
who made the Boxing Day run at North Leigh another huge success. Despite the appearance of GB athlete Matt Ashton, Chairman
Tony Lock, along with Eynsham Roadrunner Roger Gascoigne claimed victory in the pairs relay. He has assured everyone that
the pairing was not fixed!!!
London Marathon Draw - Results
After the relays we had
the draw for London Marathon places. Prior to the draw the committee decided that, because of all his help on previous London
Marathon trips and his overall commitment to the club, Les Harrison should have one of the places. The other lucky recipients
were Jean-Marc Briens, Neil Shellard, John Ashton, Helen Ashton, David May and Adam Smith with the substitute place going
to Nick Portnell.
European X-Country Championships
Former WRR Matt Ashton
finished 42nd out of 84 runners in the under 23's race at the European Cross-Country Champs in Italy.
Matt was 6th British man home only missing out on scoring for the team, which finished 5th, by a couple of seconds. The
race was very tight and, despite Matt's position he was less than a minute behind the winner. Well done Matt!
